On Thursday, 10-29-2020, Rockcastle County Schools Superintendent Carrie Ballinger was notified by the Rockcastle County Health Department that our community COVID-19 incidence rate had risen to 37.6, due to a recent rise in cases. This increase means our county continues to be in the Red status overall. As a result, and out of an abundance of caution, Rockcastle County Schools will operate under the following conditions:
- NTI will continue at all schools through Friday, 11-06-2020. This means that all students will utilize their Chromebooks to complete learning at home, using lessons assigned in Google classroom or Odyssey on those days. A decision will be made on Thursday, 11-05-2020, regarding a return to in person school on 11-09-2020.
- All school buildings will be closed at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, 10-30-2020 for deep cleaning.
- All extra-curricular activities will be cancelled at all schools beginning Saturday, 10-31-2020 through Tuesday, 11-03-2020. On Tuesday afternoon, Superintendent Ballinger will monitor our community incidence rate and will make a decision about a return to extra-curricular activities on Wednesday, 11-4-2020.
We continue to ask everyone to be patient and mindful about using all safety precautions throughout our entire community so that we might return to in-person school as soon as possible. We cannot put a price tag on the safety of our students or staff. We must remain vigilant in protecting our most valuable resource – our Rockcastle County School family.
