Rockcastle County Community Member,
Mt. Vernon Elementary School is planning our 13th annual Kenna’s Kitchen program. Last year we fed over 1,300 nutritious Thanksgiving meals to our focus group of community members which includes the elderly, shut-ins, and families who need assistance for their holiday meal. In the past, local organizations, businesses, and churches have contributed to the costs of this program. The date for this year’s event has been set for Tuesday, November 25th and we need your support.
The donations are used to purchase the turkeys and other supplies necessary to feed this large number of fellow Rockcastle County citizens. Our MVES students support this program by collecting cans of corn, green beans, peas, potatoes, and stuffing for the main course. Our MVES staff, various community members, and our RCHS supporters help by providing desserts to complete the meal. Community and school volunteers prepare and deliver the nutritious meals.
We are asking that your organization contribute monetarily to this program again this year. No amount is too large or too small. We do this not only to help others, but also in memory of Kenna Cole Lanham, our school psychologist, who was tragically murdered on October 11, 2001.
We are also in need of volunteers to help with the preparation and delivery of the meals. Please call Mrs. Kay Carpenter, our Family Resource Coordinator Secretary, at 606-256-5173 to sign up to help prepare and delivery the Thanksgiving meal to our community members, and to help in the necessary clean up from such a vast endeavor.
From our humble beginning in 2001 when we fed only 250 community members, our program has grown to feed 1,375 or more.
Thank you for your contribution and support,
