To honor the service of the 2015 Rockcastle County Board of Education members, two $250 scholarships were awarded at the May 12, 2015 board meeting. The scholarships were awarded to RCHS seniors Brook Isaacs and Tanika Chasteen based class rank/GPA, college and career readiness measures, community service activities and commitment to a specific college and major field of study.
Sequoyah Brook Isaacs is the 18 year old daughter of Steven & Cheyenne Isaacs of Mt Vernon. Brook excelled in all criteria categories. Brook received a Gold Work Keys certificate and has retested in hopes of getting a Platinum. She also passed the Allied Health KOSSA exam. Brook has completed accelerated, honors and AP courses. Based on her class rank, 4.13 GPA and ACT scores we have total confidence that Brook will be successful in her college career. She plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University in the fall of 2015 and major in a Health Career in Occupational Therapy which will be an extension of her studies at Rockcastle ATC. She is currently a co-op student at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital working in Medical Records. She is very involved in Rockcastle County community service activities through Key Club, HOSA, FCA and Honors Club. She has been in HOSA for 4 years serving as both Treasurer and Historian. Through that club she has competed in HOSA state competitions for Biomedical Debate all four years. She received 2 first, 1 second and 1 third, qualifying for nationals each of her four years. Through her clubs she has been involved with Blood Drives, Elementary School Health Fairs, Kenna’s Kitchen, Pride Roadway Clean-up and Health Information Booths at many festivals. She is a very active member of Big Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church where she sings and works with young people.
Tanika Brook Chasteen is the 17 year old daughter of Nick & Treena Chasteen of Copper Creek. Tanika excelled in all criteria categories. Tanika received a Gold Work Keys certificate and passed the State MNA exam making her College & Career Ready. She currently works as a SRNA at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital. Tanika completed accelerated, honors and AP courses. Based on her class rank, 3.95 GPA and ACT scores we have total confidence that Tanika will be successful in her college career. She plans to attend Berea College in the fall of 2015 and major in Nursing which will be an extension of her studies at Rockcastle ATC. She is very involved in Rockcastle County community service activities. She is secretary of the National Honors Society. She is also a member of FCA, Key Club and HOSA. Through these clubs she has participated in community service projects such as: Unicef, Kenna’s Kitchen, Cruise in the Valey Car Show, The Hunger Banquet and many others. She was also part of the Cross Country/Track team for several years.
