To honor the service of the 2016 Rockcastle County Board of Education members, a $250 scholarship was awarded at the April 12, 2016 board meeting. The scholarship was awarded to RCHS senior James Matthew Newcomb based class rank/GPA, college and career readiness measures, community service activities and commitment to a specific college and major field of study. Matthew is the 18 year old son of James and Sherry Newcomb of Livingston. Matthew excelled in all criteria categories. Matthew received a Silver Work Keys certificate and passed the State MNA exam making him College & Career Ready. He currently works as a SRNA at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital. Matthew completed accelerated, and honors courses. Based on his class rank (7 of 167), 4.05 GPA and ACT scores we have total confidence that Matthew will be successful in his college career. Because of his work experience at Rockcastle Regional Hospital, Matthew plans to pursue a career in the health field. He is very involved in Rockcastle County community service activities. Matthew has served as Parliamentarian and is currently serving as Treasurer for the HOSA Organization. He has also been a member of FCA, FBLA, Road Ready Rockets, Link Crew, and Dance Blue. Through these clubs he has participated in community service projects such as: Blood Drives, Relay for Life, Pride Clean-up, Run Bike and Hike Charity Race. Matthew is very involved in church work and is a dedicated Christian. He is a very talented, yet humble young man, that will represent Rockcastle County Schools well into the future.
