The Rockcastle County Board of Education met Wednesday, April 2, 2014 for approval of the necessary calendar amendments based on HB 211 being signed into law on Monday, March 31st. The Board voted to add 20 minutes to each school day starting Monday, April 7th. This will create a dismissal time at the High School and Middle School of 3:20 each day with the elementary schools following as buses arrive. Preschool and Kindergarten will only be impacted in the PM by the addition of 20 minutes. The midday switch will be the same time (morning half day programs will begin and end at the same time as before). The last day for all students will be Monday, June 2nd. Rockcastle County High School Graduation is set for 6:00 PM on Friday, May 30th. This proposal allows Rockcastle County Schools to exceed the 1062 instructional hour requirement and meets the expectations of the law.
House Bill 211 took into consideration that locally we missed 26 days of school due to inclement weather while giving the flexibility to take advantage of banked instructional time and additional minutes. After much consideration and research our school board approved a proposal that best meets the needs of our students, families and staff while maintaining the quality of our instructional year.
