BES Students Learn About Search & Rescue Dogs

BES 4th Grade recently had some very special guests come to visit us.  Our 4th graders just finished reading the book “Ellie’s Story” about a dog that was trained to be a search and rescue dog.  After finishing the book, we invited Mr. Bill Leger with his dog Layla and Mr. Tony Bullock with his dog Hunter to come and speak to our students about search and rescue dogs.  Our students had some very thoughtful questions to ask our speakers and enjoyed getting to see Hunter and Layla actually search for Mr. Bill and our very own Mrs. Rachel.  We learned about how the dogs are trained and heard about some of the things that the dogs were able to do.  It was a very interesting treat to see some actual search dogs after reading the story about a fictional search and rescue dog.
