Efforts to implement all-day kindergarten continue to move forward with unanimous support from the Rockcastle County Board of Education at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Educational research indicates that all-day kindergarten programs bring significant academic gains for all children, but particularly the “at risk” population. “I am very excited about providing full day kindergarten in Rockcastle County. It will allow our youngest students the opportunity they deserve to be successful as they enter school. These students will receive more instruction time resulting in improved student learning in both math and reading,” stated Board Member Carrie Ballinger.
District staff and elementary principals will continue working to accommodate the expanded kindergarten program, which is set to begin August 2014.
