Board of Education Supports All-Day Kindergarten

Efforts to implement all-day kindergarten continue to move forward with unanimous support from the Rockcastle County Board of Education at Tuesday night’s meeting.

School Calendar Amended

The Rockcastle County Board of Education approved amendments to the 2013-2014 school calendar at the January 14th board meeting.  The amendments to the calendar were as follows:  January 21st will change from Professional Development Day #3 to a regular instructional school day (students attend school).  Monday February 17th (President’s Day) will remain a regular instructional school day… Continue Reading School Calendar Amended

MVES Food Drive for Snack Packs

Mt. Vernon Elementary School will be collecting food items for our snack pack program during the week of January 27th–January 31st. Kindergarten Students Donate Food to Baptist Mission

Mrs. Angie Hunt’s MVES kindergarten classes conducted a community service project. Her kindergarten classes decided that they would donate canned food items instead of exchanging gifts for their Christmas party. Kenna’s Kitchen Serves 1,375 Meals

The 12th annual Kenna’s Kitchen served approximately 1,375 meals to individuals throughout the community.  Thank you to all who participated by donating items and took the time to prepare and deliver meals.  This is something that many families/individuals anticipate each year.

Preschoolers Learn About Thanksgiving

Gobble, Gobble! Ms. Hannah’s preschool class dressed up as turkeys before sharing Thanksgiving Dinner with family members on Wednesday, November 20.

Preschool Students Make Care Packages for Deployed Sailors

Preschool student Tessa Begley’s father, Bryan Begley, is currently deployed with US Navy on the USS Cowpens until spring. All of the MVES preschool classes brought in items for care packages to be mailed to Tessa’s father and other sailors on his ship.
