On April 28th 2016, 33 students from the RATC Electrical Technology Program had the opportunity to visit the Jackson Energy Cooperative Safety Training Day. The annual event, often referred to as the Lineman’s Rodeo, was held at the Jackson Energy Farm & Training Facilities. Students observed Jackson Energy Line personnel and People’s RTCC Line personnel participating in several work-related events including Pole Top/Hurtman Rescues, Bucket Rescues, and Confined Space Training & Rescues. Students were also given a High Voltage Safety Trailer Demonstration provided by the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, Inc. Jackson Energy Safety & Loss Control Director, Brandon Long, talked with students interested in pursuing Lineman training and careers. He also shared information with the students about doing lineman work in the safest possible manner. Besides showcasing the work skills and amazing talents of the electric cooperative lineman, the Safety Training Day was informative and fun and also included an awesome lunch and opportunities to look at vendor displays. RATC extends a special thank you to Jackson Energy and Gear-Up for making this trip possible.
