On the weekend of April 15 and 16, 2017, two teams from the Rockcastle County High School Junior ROTC Program traveled to Fort Boonesborough State Park to compete in the annual George Rogers Clark Competition. The two teams that competed were the Raider Team and the Rifle Team. The Raider Team competed in the following events: Mountain Trek, PRFC (Physical Fitness Relay Course), River Trek, One Rope Bridge, and Land Navigation. These events tested their physical and mental abilities as well as their ability to work as a team. The event that the Rifle Team competed in was the Biathlon, where they ran 800 meters carrying ammo cans and other weighted objects, then each cadet shot 20 rounds at a prone target.
Both teams camped at Fort Boonesborough Camp Grounds so they could wake up early and give forth their best effort to bring home a trophy. The Biathlon Rifle Team brought home the first place trophy. The Raider Team was a Let 1 and Let 2 led group (freshman and sophomores), and even though they did not bring home a trophy, they all showed their best mental and physical effort. The cadets that competed in the Biathlon were, Paige Fowler, Jacob Lamb, Elijah Vaught, Larry Vanwinkle, and Steven Rowe.
Raider Team: Ethan Saylor, Benton Kuntz, Lydia Walker, Brody Cloepfil, Cody Morris, Billy Boggs, Elizabeth Barron, Shawna Mink, Amber Doan, David Peavie, Sebastian Poynter, and Chanler Cole
