Henry Clay Comes To Roundstone

Special thanks to Citizen’s Bank for sponsoring the Chautauqua performance of Henry Clay-Kentucky’s Great Statesman.  This performance took place on Monday, March 16, 2015.  Fourth and fifth graders were memorized by George McGee portrayal of Henry Clay.  We had already been studying about Henry Clay and his role in Kentucky and American History.   Mr. McGee brought his character to life.  Henry Clay was dressed in fine clothes and he carried a suitcase that held fake pistols, which he would later use to fight a dual.  The first thing McGee talked about was his life and childhood. He told everyone that when he was four years old, his home was destroyed in the American Revolution, and he was so scared.  He also involved his audience with parts to play.   McGee used student volunteers and even Mr. Mullins to play parts in his performance.  Seth Sizemore and Mr. Mullins portrayed John Randolph and Humphrey Marshall which were in the duels with Henry Clay.  Everyone really enjoyed George McGee’s performance of Henry Clay.  Thanks again Citizen’s Bank.  Submitted By: Anna McCoy -5th grader
