King’s Letter to an Author Selected as State Winner

Mahala King, 2018 graduate of Rockcastle County High School, recently had her letter to an author selected as the state winner in the Letters about Literature contest sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.  Students wrote to an author of their choice to share how a particular book impacted their lives.  Mahala’s letter to Rick Riordian was chosen as the top letter written by a student in grades 9-12 in Kentucky.  Her letter was considered for the national award as well.  Mahala’s letter was part of her Library Practicum class at RCHS with Librarian Janet Wells.  This is the second time RCHS has had the state winner.
