This past Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Games Class 2A Indoor State Track Championships, the RCHS girls’ track team successfully defended their indoor state championship title from last season, defeating heavily favored Louisville Central by a score of 66-60. This was their 6th indoor state title overall. Alyssa Allen led the team with 18 points. She finished as state runner-up in triple jump with an indoor career best and placed 4th in both high jump and the 60-meter hurdles (also with a career best time). Amy Johnson won the state title in shot put with a season’s best throw. Lacey Gastineau finished as state runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a career indoor best and also placed 5th in the 60-meter dash with a career best time. Alyssa Cox placed 10th in the 3000-meter run. Sierra Mercer placed 3rd in the 800-meter run with a career best time. Katelynn Hensley placed 3rd in long jump. The 3200-meter relay team including Sierra Mercer, Rachel Cain, Tanika Chasteen, and Bryonna Cromer placed 6th. Katelynn Hensley, Arie-anna Lawson, Mikaela Sadler, and Jennifer Mercer ran on the 6th place 800-meter relay team. The 1600-meter relay team featuring Sierra Mercer, Katelynn Hensley, Jennifer Mercer, and Lacey Gastineau secured the state title win for RCHS with a state runner-up finish and a new indoor school record time.
