Mrs. McQueary’s 2nd grade class walked to the Courthouse. We enjoyed our tour and especially had fun doing a Mock Trial with Juge Katie Wood. We would like to thank Eliza York, Danetta Allen and others who helped make our trip educational.
MVES 2nd grade students from Mrs. Cowan’s, Mr. McKinney’s, Mrs. Gentry’s and Mrs. Burton’s classes participated in a lesson with Judge Katie Wood last week at the Rockcastle County Courthouse. Students were engaged in a mock trial and enjoyed learning from Judge Wood. They also visited the County Clerk’s Office where they heard about the how it helps our community. MVES would like to thank Judge Wood, Danetta Ford, and Eliza York for taking time to talk to the students.
Mrs. Jamie Bryant’s First Grade class recently studied the life cycle of a butterfly. The study culminated in two butterflies hatching. They were released in the butterfly garden at MVES.
Mt. Vernon Elementary’s 1st Academic Meet of the Season
Mt. Vernon Elementary competed in their first Academic meet for the 2017-18 season at Brodhead Elementary on Monday, September 25, 2017. MVES was represented well with over 20 members in attendance. Several members placed individually in the various subject areas. We are very proud of all of our members. In Science, Anna Chaliff won 1st place, Susanne Mullins tied for 2nd place, and Shannen Eckert came in with a 4th place finish. In Social Studies, Jackson Stallsworth placed 3rd, Allie Cable placed 4th, and Chloe Bray placed 5th. In Language Arts, Emily Renner won 1st place, while Kendra Barnes came in 2nd, AJ Cromer placed 4th, and Michael McKinney came in 5th place. In Arts & Humanities, Harrison Mullins placed 2nd, Emory Hazelwood came in 4th place, while Isabella Mink and Ella Vance tied for 5th place.
