The Great Zinnia Race—-Mrs. Julie’s 4th grade has been working in the greenhouse.  They are investigating which variable will grow the healthiest, tallest and most beautiful zinnia.  Students have worked through the scientific method to conduct this research.  They will be making and recording their observations for the next several weeks.  The students have also started many different vegetables and flowers that they will be able to take home at the end of the school year.

The President Comes to Mt. Vernon!

Recently, Mt. Vernon Elementary fifth grade students had a very special guest speaker.  By way of the Mills Springs Battlefield Association, President Abraham Lincoln came and spoke to our students discussing a number of topics which included: his time as a boy in Kentucky, how he got his start in politics, and his time serving as president during the Civil War.  This activity helped students convey and appreciate the concepts we’ve been discussing in Social Studies.
