World School Milk Day (WSMD), celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of September, is an exciting day full of activities that highlight the health benefits and value of milk in schools.
On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, Mt. Vernon Elementary School students and staff members celebrated with local dairy farmers Grant & April Martin and their calf, Trudy. Our other special guests were dairy farmers Ronnie & Clara Patton and Melinda Turner from the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association.
Students learned about dairy farms, how milk is made and the importance of drinking milk as part of a healthy, balanced diet with an emphasis on milk as an excellent source of vitamins and minerals that kids need to stay alert and ready to learn.
We appreciate everyone who made World School Milk Day a success at MVES!
