MVES Fifth Grade Class President Elected

Mount Vernon Elementary School students know first hand about democracy. Students immerse themselves in parliamentary procedure and democratic principles throughout the month of September.  To kick off this unit, all students read the book “Class President” by Johanna Hurtwiz and completed activities discovering numerous attributes that make a great leader. Text to World connections came to life as students participated in Fifth Grade Class President elections on Friday, September 26th. Each of the six Fifth Grade homerooms discussed the characteristics of a great leader; and then classrooms nominated one student to represent their classroom as class president.  Every fifth grade student then was given the opportunity to cast a vote for one student to be selected as Fifth Grade Class President. Carson White was selected president by his peers. White and candidates will be part of the MVES Student Council alongside teacher members, and principal, Mr. J.D. Bussell. The MVES Student Council will meet the first Friday of each month to brainstorm ideas to help ensure that MVES Mustangs will lead the pack with academic success and excellence!
