RCHS JROTC Rifle Team Recieves Grant from National Rifle Association

The Rockcastle County High School JROTC Rifle Team in past years has competed in rifle competitions with 2 teams. We have progressed recently to where we can add a third team. The National Rifle Association has given the rifle team their second grant totaling $2,310.00 to purchase the additional equipment needed for this team.

The NRA (National Rifle Association) gave a first grant totaling $1,038.00 in 2008. The grant was used for buying equipment for the team after moving to an 8 lane range in the Rockcastle Area Technology Center.

The Rifle Team has been very successful since the team got the 8 lane range and moved to the Rockcastle Area Technology Center. The team has traveled all over Kentucky for marksmanship rifle competitions. The Sporter team also traveled to Camp Perry Ohio in 2011 and the Precision team traveled to Camp Perry in 2012.

The Rockcastle County JROTC program has educated many students in rifle safety at the end of each school year. More than fifty cadets shot last year at the close of the year. The rifle team looks forward to another successful year and would like to thank the friends of NRA for the grant that is greatly appreciated and will be used efficiently.
