Students in Mr. Nick Williams’ 7th grade Project Lead The Way class constructed hot air balloons as a part of the “Flying Machines” unit in their 7th grade PLTW Flight & Space course. While constructing and launching the balloons, students learned about the concept of buoyancy and how it applies to hot air balloons. The hot air inside the balloon is less dense than the cold air on the outside of the balloon, creating lift and allowing the balloons to float. It was a beautiful day for the launch!
