To our Rockcastle County Schools Community:
In an effort to provide timely and transparent information, Rockcastle County Schools, in cooperation with the local and regional health departments, is notifying you of our recent change in COVID status. As of Wednesday, October 7th, our county was placed in the Red Zone, due to a recent rise in cases at the Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Brodhead. In consultation with the Cumberland Valley Regional Health Department, it has been determined that the recent COVID-19 spike is confined to a long term care facility and does not constitute community spread. Therefore, Rockcastle County Schools will remain in session.
As the Superintendent of Rockcastle County Schools, my first responsibility is to advocate for the students in our community, as well as to ensure their safety. We are teaching our students how to operate within the new normal, properly sanitize their hands, wear a mask, social distance, and complete virtual learning, as needed. We feel it is vital to overall student health that our students participate in and receive all of the services provided through in-person, public education. Now, during the COVID-19 era, we are doing our part to ensure they are in school and participating in a controlled, accountable, and safe environment.
Rockcastle County Schools will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic daily. We assume the responsibility of mitigating the spread of the virus within our district using our Rocket Re-Launch plan, and we will continually work in a close partnership with our local and regional health departments to keep all of our students and staff safe. Our first priorities are the health, safety, welfare and education of all of our students. We are here to make the best decision for our students, balancing their educational needs with their social/emotional needs, while respecting the serious nature of the virus.
If, in working with our local and regional health departments, it is determined that community spread is occurring, we will re-evaluate our plans and alert the community to any changes, via our district website, local media and other social media platforms. The community can also monitor the daily number of COVID-19 cases within our school district at: https://public.tableau.com/profile/chfs.dph#!/vizhome/COVID19SchoolSelfReportngData/SchoolSelfReportCovid19DB
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to provide the best education possible for the students of Rockcastle County Schools. As always, feel free to contact our Central Office with any questions and/or concerns.
Carrie Ballinger, Superintendent
Rockcastle County Schools
