On October 17, 2014, Mrs. Hurst’s and Mrs. Burdett’s fifth grade classes went to Wildcat Mountain. We went to all kinds of different stations. Some of the things we learned are that the artillery used small to big cannons and that both Union and Confederate sides had women spies. One famous Union spy was Sarah Emma Edmonds. We also got to hold a real musket rifle from the 1860’s. One of the coolest parts of the trip was getting to play the games that the children played back in the 1860’s. Did you know that dolls were made out of pure strips of cotton? We really learned a lot about the Civil War and life in the 1860’s.
