Teachers from RCMS and RCHS are participating in local Professional Development Cadre’s during the 2015-16 school year to improve teacher effectiveness and strengthen units of instruction, by improving technical reading and writing, questioning, rigor, assessment for learning, and feedback. Content area consultants are working with staff at the Rockcastle Teaching and Learning Center in content area cadre’s. Additional support will be provided with classroom follow-up sessions. (Pictured are teachers from the middle and high school working together in groups as part of the math cadre.)
In the pictures below, new teachers are active participants in professional development designed for them to implement the work of Rick Siggins, Assessment for Learning. This effort prepares new teachers for their initial introduction to assessment for learning and the challenges they will face in monitoring student learning. Teachers will learn how to set students up for success, leave with strategies to implement immediately and have a foundation laid for on-going work. Funding for these efforts are sponsored by the Rockcastle County School District and the Berea College GEAR UP Partnership.
