Every student and staff member at RCHS participated in a school-wide initiative to promote health and physical activity. The first annual Rock Moves event included a run and 18 stations students could choose from. The event was a joint effort, planned by assistant Principal, Mrs. Becky Smith and PE/Health instructor, Mrs. Vanessa Howard. It was facilitated by the RCHS PE and Health Dept. (McQueary, Rupard, and Howard) and every staff member at the high school, with the help of community members, Ms. Angie Thomas (Zumba) and Rockcastle Regional employee, Mrs. Morgan Bray (Kettlebells). We are grateful for the support of our local hospital and community members as well as the phenomenal staff and administration at RCHS! Activities for The Rock Moves included Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee, Sideline Soccer, Uphill Kickball, the Raider Obstacle Course, Zumba, a Kettlebell class, Yoga, Karate, Walking, and many more. Research shows that healthy, active kids are better learners and that is the culture we want to support at RCHS. The proceeds of the event will go towards certifying Rocket freshmen in CPR and purchasing materials to help keep students active.
As part of The Rock Moves event, over 65 RCHS students and staff participated in a 2-mile run during first period on September 29th. We want to thank Rockcastle Regional Hospital for their generous donation that purchased t-shirts and trophies, and for Kayla Rowe and the other hospital workers who made the race possible. Also, a big thank you to the JROTC for helping facilitate the race and the RCHS administration for allowing us to do such an awesome event!
