William “Andy” Walker was recently awarded the Outstanding Student Technology Award by the Central District of the Kentucky Association of School Librarians (CKASL) for his contributions to students and staff with technology at Rockcastle County High School. Joanie Alexander, teacher at Rockcastle County Middle School and graduate student at Western Kentucky University, received the Eleanor Simmons Scholarship for library science students at the recent meeting of the Central District of the Kentucky Association of School Librarians (CKASL). The scholarship is for graduate students currently enrolled in a graduate program to pursue certification as a school library media specialist. Presently Joanie her check is Janet Wells, RCHS Librarian. Ms. Alexander is also entered at the state level for another graduate student scholarship, with winners announced in July.
Mrs. Laura Durham was recently honored with the Award of Merit from the Central District of the Kentucky Association of School Librarians (CKASL). Mrs. Durham (center) is shown receiving her certificate from RCHS Principal Jennifer Mattingly and RCHS Librarian Janet Wells. The Award of Merit is awarded to one person who has shown outstanding support of school libraries, and Mrs. Durham through the Rockcastle Chapter of the Kentucky Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (KSDAR) has partnered with the RCHS Library for many years by working with the RCHS Book Clubs and the annual Spring into Reading event. Mrs. Durham is now entered into competition for the state-level Award of Merit, to be presented in July at the KASL Awards Ceremony.
