Dear Mt. Vernon Elementary School Parent:
As we approach the closing of another school year, it is time to nominate and elect parent members for our MVES 2020-21 Site Based Decision Making Council.
In Kentucky, each school has a council composed of the principal, elected teachers, and elected parents who make many of the most important decisions about how their school will work. The council is a wonderful chance to learn about our school, work closely with teachers, and help make our school even more successful than it is now. The parent members of the council are elected by parents. They receive training this summer and will serve on the MVES SBDM Council from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.
Nominations are due to the school office no later than 3:30 PM on May 14, 2020. A member of the MVES PTG will be at the front door of the school to accept nominations. Parents may also mail nomination forms to the school address listed above. If you know of someone who would be a good candidate, please encourage that person to run. MVES will contact the nominees by phone to gain acceptance of nomination. Please make sure we have a valid phone number in the nomination form.
The election will be held May 21, 2020 from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM in the school lobby. If you have a child enrolled at MVES this year, you are eligible to vote in this election. (This includes parents, step-parents and foster parents. Legal guardians are also eligible to vote if the child lives in their home.) I urge every parent to participate in this important decision about the future of our children’s school.
Results will be announced (and a runoff held if necessary) on May 21, 2020 at 3:45 PM in the school office.
