Scholarship Update

**Students, note that some of these scholarships must be mailed directly to the sponsor. You must take care of getting those postmarked rather than giving them to the counselors. For all others, there are collection folders in the guidance office for you to put your applications. There is an (*) next to the scholarships that are being collected in the guidance office.

New:

*Rockcastle County Community Scholarships: The community has several scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2000, which are available to RCHS seniors. Applicants must write a 300 word essay concerning education and career goals. The application is available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is April 29, 2016.

Rockcastle Regional Hospital Scholarship: Rockcastle Regional Hospital is offering a scholarship to students who are planning to major in health care fields of study (diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physician, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, speech pathology). Applicants must have two letters of recommendation (preferably one educational and one community), and an essay of no more than 400 words describing why you wish to become a healthcare professional. Deadline for submission is April 20, 2016.

Previously Announced:

Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship: The Chamber of Commerce will award one $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation (one educational and one community), as well as two short (one page) essays on selected topics which can be found in the application. Deadline to submit applications is April 22, 2016. Applications are available in the guidance office. (applications can be mailed directly to the Chamber of Commerce or given to counselors)

*Jim Cox Memorial Scholarship: This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to major in a science-related field or science education in college, and who has demonstrated proficiency in high school science courses. Applications are available in the guidance office, and are due by April 29, 2016.

*Berea Masonic Lodge Scholarship: The Berea Masonic Lodge is awarding a $500 scholarship to an RCHS senior. There is no minimum GPA, but academics, community service, and extracurricular involvement will be considered in the selection of the winner. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is April 29, 2016.

*Cruisin’ in the Valley Scholarship: One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who plans on attending a college or technical school in the fall of 2016. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline to submit applications has been extended to April 15th.

*Mt. Vernon Lions Club Scholarship: The Lions Club has established a scholarship fund that will provide one annual scholarship in the amount of $1000 to a local senior. Two letters of recommendation, as well as a biographical sketch, are required. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is April 29, 2016.

*Rockcastle Kiwanis Scholarship: The Rockcastle Kiwanis Club is offering one $1000 scholarship to a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who is a member of the Key Club. Two letters of recommendation are required, along with a short essay. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is April 29, 2016.

2016 Student-View Scholarship Program: One $4000 scholarship, two $1000 scholarships, and ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to seniors across the nation. Applicants must complete a 15-20 minute survey, and winners will be chosen via a random drawing of all completed applications. Winners will be announced in May. Deadline is April 22, 2016.
