During the week of July 4th, the 2016-17 Rockcastle County FFA Officer Team attended the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center in Hardinsburg, KY. During this week, students gained important leadership and communication skills by participating in classes such as an officer’s class, chapter planning hour, special interest classes, and group athletics. Further, the officer team was able to develop teamwork skills through participation in a ropes course, volleyball, and water-ball. The Rockcastle County FFA Chapter was represented well at camp. Autumn Davidson represented the chapter as the nominee for Camp Council, while Trevor Sweet served as the delegate from the Rockcastle Chapter on the Camp Council Nominating Committee. Savannah Goff sang “I Told You So” during the Camp Talent Contest. Michaela Barron, Autumn Davidson, and Sydney Hines were selected as part of the camp all-star volleyball team. Hope Holbrook placed second in the FFA Quiz Contest and advanced to the state finals that will take place during the Kentucky State Fair. Each week of FFA Camp, the top 10% of students attending are selected to receive leadership awards. Several Rockcastle FFA students were among that 10% attending the fourth week of FFA Camp. Savannah Goff received one of these leadership awards. Further, the top 3% of that top 10% is selected to receive the highest honor that a student can achieve at camp: an Outstanding Leadership Award. Rockcastle FFA was proud to have the most students within this top 3% of any other FFA chapter attending camp during the same week. Jarrett Burke, Josh Martin, Pamela Miller, and Trevor Sweet all received Outstanding Leadership Awards. The Rockcastle County FFA would like to thank the Rockcastle FFA Alumni Association for providing $100 per student towards the $150 student camp fee. In addition, we would like to thank the Kentucky FFA State Alumni Association for providing two full camp scholarships for two of our members.
