Scholarship Update 3-3-2017

**Students, note that some of these scholarships must be mailed directly to the sponsor. You must take care of getting those postmarked rather than giving them to the counselors. For all others, there are collection folders in the guidance office for you to put your applications. There is an (*) next to the scholarships that are being collected in the guidance office.

New:

Rockcastle Regional Hospital Scholarship: Rockcastle Regional Hospital is offering a scholarship to students who are planning to major in health care fields of study (diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physician, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, speech pathology). Applicants must have two letters of recommendation (preferably one educational and one community), and an essay of no more than 400 words describing why you wish to become a healthcare professional. Deadline for submission is April 20, 2017.

Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society Scholarship: The Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society invites applications from all high school seniors planning to attend college in the fall of 2017. Several $1000 scholarships will be awarded at the BIACS banquet, held in Lexington. To access the online application, go to www.scholarship.biacs.org. More information can be found in the guidance office. Deadline for submission of application is March 13, 2017.

Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship: The Chamber of Commerce will award one $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation (one educational and one community), as well as two short (one page) essays on selected topics which can be found in the application. Deadline to submit applications is April 7, 2017. Applications are available in the guidance office. (applications can be mailed directly to the Chamber of Commerce or given to counselors)

*Jim Cox Memorial Scholarship: This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to major in a science-related field or science education in college, and who has demonstrated proficiency in high school science courses. Applications are available in the guidance office, and are due by April 21, 2017.

Previously Announced:

KYACAC Kimberly Merritt “Achieve Your Dreams” Scholarship: Four $500 non-renewable scholarships (one per region) will be given to interested seniors. Application can be accessed at www.kyacac.org.

Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute: Seven $1000 scholarships will be awarded to high seniors who live in modular or manufactured homes in Kentucky.  Applicants must submit a 300 word essay explaining the “impact of factory-built housing on your life” and three letters of recommendation (only one can be from school personnel).  Applications are available in the guidance office and must be post-marked by April 1, 2017.

“I Am UNITE” Scholarship: This $1500 need-based scholarship will be made available to 20 or more high school seniors in the 32 county region who are current or former members of the UNITE Club or who have attended Camp UNITE as a camper or Team Leader. Applicants must have a 2.75 (unweighted) GPA, and must submit a 500 word essay and two letters of recommendation (one from a school employee and one from a community member). Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is March 17, 2017.

Commonwealth Credit Union Scholarship: CCU is offering a $1000 scholarship to four students. Applicants or parents/guardians of applicants must be members of CCU. A minimum 2.8 GPA is required. Scholarship applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is March 17, 2017.

*Guy and Mabel Lykins Scholarship: This $500 scholarship is open to high school seniors who will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (4 year), and who have maintained a 3.0 GPA (unweighted). The scholarship may be used for tuition and/or books. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is April 3, 2017.

BAF Scholarship: BAF is offering a $5000 scholarship plus a $5000 internship the summer after graduation to a high school senior. Applicants must have a 3.7 GPA, a minimum ACT score of 27, and must be planning to attend a 4 year college or university. Lindsey Wilson College Southeastern Kentucky Partnership Scholarship: LWC will offer a full tuition, room and board scholarship to three students who are within a 16 county area. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 and minimum ACT of 18, and must be Pell Grant eligible. There is also a 1-2 page essay required. Students who apply but are not selected will receive an additional $1000 for competing. Information is in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is April 1, 2017.

Kentucky Federation of Republican Women Scholarship: One scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded to a senior girl who has been politically active within the Republican Party. The qualified applicant must submit a one page typed essay about a Republican woman you admire or who has influenced your life and why. Information is in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is April 1, 2017.

*Rockcastle Community Scholarships: The community has several scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2000, which are available to RCHS seniors. Applicants must write a 300 word essay concerning education and career goals. The application is available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is April 21, 2017.

*Cruisin’ in the Valley Scholarship: One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who plans on attending a college or technical school in the fall of 2017. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline to submit applications is April 21st.
