Jackson Energy Scholarship Essay Contest: Jackson Energy sponsors an essay contest each year and awards a $2000 scholarship to the winner. Applicants must be seniors who plan to attend a college or trade program in the fall of 2018. Applicants, their parents, or their legal guardians must be a Jackson Energy Cooperative member. To apply, please submit a cover sheet and your essay of 1000-1500 words discussing “Why I have chosen to spend the next four years of my life in college and what I plan to do afterwards.” The cover sheet must include: 1) student name 2) high school 3) FULL home address 4) phone number 5) email address 6) name of person and relation on Jackson Energy account, and 7) Jackson Energy account number. Essays submitted after deadline (November 25, 2017) or not in accordance with guidelines will not be considered. Kentucky Concrete Association: KCA will offer a $2000 scholarship to a senior who submits an essay on the following topic: “How can concrete be used to benefit Kentuckians across the state?” The essay must be no longer than 600 words. Essays must be submitted along with an official entry form, available in the guidance office. Deadline for entries to be postmarked is Thursday, November 30, 2017.
Lindsey Wilson College Southeastern Kentucky Partnership Scholarship: LWC offers this competitive, full-tuition, room-and-board scholarship. In order to receive the scholarship, students must meet the following requirements: Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0, minimum ACT of 18, admission to Lindsey Wilson College, completion of the FAFSA by January 31st, Federal Pell Grant eligible, submission of a 1-2 page essay by April 1, 2017 on the topic of “How would you describe a successful life?”. Students who do apply but are not selected for the Partnership Scholarship will receive an additional $1,000 towards their tuition to LWC. Last year, there were very few applications submitted, and an RCHS student won this scholarship! KSBA Scholarship: The Kentucky School Boards Association will fund two $2500 scholarships for eligible Kentucky high school seniors to attend any two or four year college or university. One scholarship will be awarded to a male and one to a female. Eligible students are those who would be the first members of their immediate families (parents, guardians, siblings) to complete degree requirements from an institution of higher education. Applicants must also have a minimum ACT reading score of 20. The one page application must be completed and received by KSBA not later than Friday, November 15, 2017. The scholarships will be awarded based on a drawing conducted by the KSBA Board of Directors in December. Applications are available in the guidance office.
Somerset Community College Scholarships: SCC has a wide variety of scholarships, and the scholarship office strives to match students with appropriate funding sources. Deadline for submission is March 1, 2018.
Western Kentucky University Cherry Presidential Scholarship: Students with a minimum 3.8 GPA and a minimum 31 ACT qualify to compete for WKU’s most prestigious scholarship, the Cherry Presidential. Morehead State University George M. Luckey, Jr. Honors Program Scholarship: Morehead offers this competitive scholarship opportunity for seniors interested in the honors program. The scholarship covers tuition, on-campus housing cost up to a four person suite, and $5000 for all other expenses. Other benefits include participation in the Academic Honors Program, residence in the Honors Learning Community, an undergraduate research fellowship with a faculty mentor, opportunities for community service, priority registration, and up to $1500 in funds to be used for a required overseas experience. Horatio Alger Association Scholarship: The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. Scholarships in the amount up to $25,000 are available for students who meet eligibility requirements and who have their online application completed by October 25, 2017.
