Scholarship Updates


CEDIK Appalachian Health Career Scholarships: The Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky (CEDIK) at the University of Kentucky is administering scholarships to Appalachian students seeking education in health or a health‐related field. Because of the shortage of health care providers in the Appalachian region, along with the expected retirement of many physicians and an aging population that demands more health care, the need to educate and then retain young health care professionals is a real priority. Scholarships are allocated for full‐time students with a maximum award of $2,500 per semester.  Part-time students are eligible to apply for partial scholarships. Students must be from an ARC defined Appalachian county to be eligible. Scholarship is for one year. Applicants must submit an essay and two letters of recommendation.  Jackson Energy Lineman Training School Scholarship: A full tuition scholarship ($3850) is available to high school seniors who plan to enroll in the Somerset Lineman Training School and begin the program by October 2018. Other requirements include: 1) applicants must obtain their CDL prior to beginning the program 2) applicants or parents must be Jackson Energy members 3) applicants must complete an interview process. Application forms are available in the guidance office, and must be postmarked by May 25, 2018.

Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute Scholarship: Students who currently reside in a modular, manufactured, or mobile home are eligible for one of 7 $1000 scholarships. Students must complete an application, including a 300 word essay explaining the “impact of factory-built housing on your life.” In addition, applicants must submit letters of recommendation from both teachers and community members. Deadline for submission is April 1, 2018. Applications are in the guidance office.

 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 Scholarship: Whitaker Bank, as part of its continuing support of the KHSAA and sponsorship of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16, will be presenting a one-time $1,500 scholarship to four high school senior student athletes. The scholarships are open to high school seniors that participate in KHSAA sanctioned sports and sport-activities. Deadline for the information to be received by the KHSAA is February 28th. There is no limit to the number of applicants from a school. Winners will be recognized during one day of the 2018 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ State Basketball Tournament, March 14-18 in Lexington at Rupp Arena. Eastern Kentucky University Foundation Scholarships: The Eastern Kentucky University Foundation offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to deserving students.  EKU Foundation scholarships are awarded through the University Scholarship Office and at college and department levels.   New and renewable awards of EKU Foundation scholarships are subject to available funds each year. “I Am UNITE” Scholarship: This $1500 need-based scholarship will be made available to 20 or more high school seniors in the 32 county region who are current or former members of the UNITE Club or who have attended Camp UNITE as a camper or Team Leader. Applicants must have a 2.75 (unweighted) GPA, and must submit a 500 word essay and two letters of recommendation (one from a school employee and one from a community member). Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation Scholarship: KFB will award 95 county and state scholarships to high school seniors for the current school year. Scholarships may be applied to tuition, housing, books, and other educational expenses. Payments will be made directly to the college or university. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA or a minimum 23 ACT score, and be the child of a Kentucky Farm Bureau member. Applications may be downloaded at or picked up in the guidance office. Kentucky Federation of Republican Women Scholarship: One scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded to a senior girl who has been politically active within the Republican Party. The qualified applicant must submit a one page typed essay about a Republican woman you admire or who has influenced your life and why. Rockcastle Community Scholarships: The community has several scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2000, which are available to RCHS seniors. Applicants must write a 300 word essay concerning education and career goals. The application is available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is April 20, 2018.

Rockcastle Regional Hospital Scholarship: Rockcastle Regional Hospital is offering a scholarship to students who are planning to major in health care fields of study (diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physician, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, speech pathology). Applicants must have two letters of recommendation (preferably one educational and one community), and an essay of no more than 400 words describing why you wish to become a healthcare professional. Applications are available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is March 30, 2018.

Upper Cumberland Counseling Association Human Services Scholarship: UCCA is offering a $500 scholarship to students who are planning to major in a human services field (ie…counseling, sociology, education, psychology, child development, social work). Applicants must complete the application, including a short essay, and include at least one letter of recommendation from a current teacher. Applications are available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is March 2, 2018.

Raise Me Scholarship: The Raise Me micro-scholarships are awarded to students based upon their grades, test scores, participation in extra-curricular activities, and many other activities. Students create an account, and then log their information in each category. Money is awarded for each category, and is used to help pay for college expenses. Any student is eligible for these micro-scholarships. Currently, the Kentucky colleges/universities that participate in the Raise Me program are Campbellsville University, Centre College, Georgetown College, or the University of Kentucky. Somerset Community College Scholarships: SCC offers many scholarships to students in various fields of study. There is only one application to complete in order to be considered for all scholarships. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2018. To apply, go to
