Scholarship Update 4/9/2018

**Students, note that some of these scholarships must be mailed directly to the sponsor. You must take care of getting those postmarked rather than giving them to the counselors. For all others, there is a box with collection folders in the guidance office for you to put your applications. There is an (*) next to the scholarships that are being collected in the guidance office.

·         Don’t wait until the last minute to start your applications!

·         You might be able to use the same essay for some of these scholarships!

·         If you don’t qualify for financial aid, you DO still qualify for many of these scholarships!

·         Fill out the applications NEATLY and COMPLETELY. This makes a big difference!


*Berea Masonic Lodge Scholarship: The Berea Masonic Lodge is awarding a $500 scholarship to an RCHS senior. There is no minimum GPA, but academics, community service, and extracurricular involvement will be considered in the selection of the winner. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is April 27, 2018.

*Mt. Vernon Lions Club Scholarship: The Lions Club has established a scholarship fund that will provide one annual scholarship in the amount of $1000 to a local senior. Two letters of recommendation, as well as a biographical sketch, are required. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for submission is May 1, 2018.

*Rockcastle Kiwanis Scholarship: The Rockcastle Kiwanis Club is offering one $1000 scholarship to a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who is a member of the Key Club. Two letters of recommendation are required, along with a short essay. Applications are in the guidance office or you can get one from Ms. Kayla Bryant. Deadline for submission is April 27, 2018.

Previously Announced:

CEDIK Appalachian Health Career Scholarships: The Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky (CEDIK) at the University of Kentucky is administering scholarships to Appalachian students seeking education in health or a health‐related field. Because of the shortage of health care providers in the Appalachian region, along with the expected retirement of many physicians and an aging population that demands more health care, the need to educate and then retain young health care professionals is a real priority. Scholarships are allocated for full‐time students with a maximum award of $2,500 per semester.  Part-time students are eligible to apply for partial scholarships. Students must be from an ARC defined Appalachian county to be eligible. Scholarship is for one year. Applicants must submit an essay and two letters of recommendation. Applications can be found at Deadline for submission is April 23, 2018.

*Cruisin’ in the Valley Scholarship: One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who plans on attending a college or technical school in the Fall of 2018. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline to submit applications is April 20, 2018.

*Jim Cox Memorial Scholarship: This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to major in a science-related field or science education in college, and who has demonstrated proficiency in high school science courses. Applications are available in the guidance office, and are due by April 20, 2018.

Jackson Energy Lineman Training School Scholarship: A full tuition scholarship ($3850) is available to high school seniors who plan to enroll in the Somerset Lineman Training School and begin the program by October 2018. Other requirements include: 1) applicants must obtain their CDL prior to beginning the program 2) applicants or parents must be Jackson Energy members 3) applicants must complete an interview process. Application forms are available in the guidance office, and must be postmarked by May 25, 2018.

*Rockcastle Community Scholarships: The community has several scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2000, which are available to RCHS seniors. Applicants must write a 300 word essay concerning education and career goals. The application is available in the guidance office; deadline for submission has been extended to April 27, 2018.

*Rockcastle County Conservation District Scholarship: A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who plans to major in an agriculture related field. Applicants are required to submit a transcript and a short essay. Applications are in the guidance office; deadline to apply is April 16, 2018.

Raise Me Scholarship: The Raise Me micro-scholarships are awarded to students based upon their grades, test scores, participation in extra-curricular activities, and many other activities. Students create an account, and then log their information in each category. Money is awarded for each category, and is used to help pay for college expenses. Any student is eligible for these micro-scholarships. Currently, the Kentucky colleges/universities that participate in the Raise Me program are Campbellsville University, Centre College, Georgetown College, or the University of Kentucky.
