DAR Scholarships: Several scholarships are offered through the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Some target students who are planning a career in history, nursing, occupational therapy, or physical therapy. Others target students who are of Native American descent (must have Tribal Council verification). These scholarship applications have varying academic requirements; they are due by February 15, 2019. Applications and more information are available in the guidance office.
Jackson Energy Scholarship Essay Contest: Jackson Energy sponsors an essay contest each year and awards a $2000 scholarship to the winner. Applicants must be seniors who plan to attend a college or trade program in the fall of 2018. Applicants, their parents, or their legal guardians must be a Jackson Energy Cooperative member. To apply, please submit a cover sheet and your essay of 1000-1500 words discussing “If you could improve one thing about your local community, what would it be and how would you work toward making this improvement?” The cover sheet must include: 1) student name 2) high school 3) FULL home address 4) phone number 5) email address 6) name of person and relation on Jackson Energy account, and 7) Jackson Energy account number. Essays submitted after deadline (November 25, 2018) or not in accordance with guidelines will not be considered. Berea College: If you are interested in attending Berea College, the deadline for applying is March 31st 2019, but it is best if you can get your application completed early in the school year. You must also have a counselor and a teacher complete a recommendation form and send it to the admissions office. Eastern Kentucky University Merit Scholarships: EKU awards scholarship automatically to students who qualify, and the amount varies according to GPA and ACT score. Kentucky Federation of Republican Women Scholarship: The Kentucky Federation of Republican women grants a $1,500 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior girt who has been politically active within the Republican Party. Applicants must also be a registered Republican and plan to enroll at an accredited Kentucky college or university. The completed application will include the application form, a one page typed essay, transcript, and two letters of recommendation. Pick up applications in the guidance office; deadline for submission is April 1, 2019.
Morehead State University George M. Luckey, Jr. Honors Program Scholarship: Morehead offers this competitive scholarship opportunity for seniors interested in the honors program. The scholarship covers tuition, on-campus housing cost up to a four person suite, and $5000 for all other expenses. Other benefits include participation in the Academic Honors Program, residence in the Honors Learning Community, an undergraduate research fellowship with a faculty mentor, opportunities for community service, priority registration, and up to $1500 in funds to be used for a required overseas experience. This is a wonderful opportunity to get a FREE college education! Morehead State University Scholarships: There are many scholarships that MSU offers which vary in award depending upon your GPA and ACT score. The deadline for most of these scholarships is March 15, 2019.
Northern Kentucky University: Students who achieve a 2.5 weighted GPA and a 21 ACT or 1060 SAT or greater are considered for academic scholarships. The university offers numerous scholarship levels from $500 to full tuition/housing. Students must be admitted and have a complete file by February 15, 2019 to be eligible. Somerset Community College Scholarships: SCC has a wide variety of scholarships, and the scholarship office strives to match students with appropriate funding sources. Deadline for submission is March 1, 2019.
University of Kentucky Academic Scholarships: Depending upon your GPA and ACT score, you may qualify for a scholarship at U.K. For more information, go to http://www.uky.edu/financialaid/scholarship-incoming-freshmen. The deadline for most of these scholarships is December 1, 2019.
Western Kentucky University Cherry Presidential Scholarship: Students with a minimum 3.8 GPA and a minimum 31 ACT qualify to compete for WKU’s most prestigious scholarship, the Cherry Presidential. Western Kentucky University Academic Merit Scholarship: Students with a minimum 3.3 GPA (unweighted) and a minimum 25 ACT qualify for academic merit scholarship. To be considered for an Academic Merit Award, students must have a complete application package on file by February 1st.
