SCHOLARSHIP UPDATES February 1, 2019

NEW:

Lindsey Wilson College Bonner Scholar Program: Any student who plans to attend Lindsey Wilson College may apply to become a Bonner Scholar. Bonner Scholars focuses on community service and leadership, and applicants must demonstrate their passion for service. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA above a 3.0 and commit to 8-10 hours of direct service weekly at specified sites within the radius of LWC. For more information and application instructions, visit the guidance office or the website at www.lindsey.edu/bonner.  Applications are due by March 15, 2019.

Rockcastle County Conservation District Scholarship: A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who plans to major in an agriculture related field. Applicants are required to submit a transcript and a short essay. Applications are in the guidance office; deadline to apply is March 15, 2019.

Rockcastle Regional Hospital Scholarship: Rockcastle Regional Hospital is offering a scholarship to students who are planning to major in health care fields of study (diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physician, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, speech pathology). Applicants must have two letters of recommendation (preferably one educational and one community), and an essay of no more than 400 words describing why you wish to become a healthcare professional. Applications MUST be mailed or brought to the hospital—no email submissions will be considered. Applications are available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is March 15, 2019.

Upper Cumberland Counseling Association Human Services Scholarship: UCCA is offering a $500 scholarship to students who are planning to major in a human services field (ie…counseling, sociology, education, psychology, child development, social work). Applicants must complete the application, including a short essay, and include at least one letter of recommendation from a current teacher. Applications are available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is March 1, 2019.


PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED:

Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society Scholarship: The Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society invites applications from all high school seniors planning to attend college in the fall of 2019. Several $1000 scholarships will be awarded at the BIACS banquet, held in Lexington. To access information and the online application, go to www.scholarship.biacs.org. Deadline for submission of application is March 15, 2019.

Commonwealth Credit Union Scholarship: CCU is offering a $1000 scholarship to four students. Applicants or parents/guardians of applicants must be members of CCU. A minimum 2.8 GPA is required. Scholarship applications are available in the guidance office or at https://ccuky.org/scholarshipinfo/scholarships.php  Deadline for submission is March 30, 2019.

Cruisin’ in the Valley Scholarship: One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who plans on attending a college or technical school in the Fall of 2019. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline to submit applications is April 30, 2019.

“I Am UNITE” Scholarship: This $1500 need-based scholarship will be made available to 20 or more high school seniors in the 32 county region who are current or former members of the UNITE Club or who have attended Camp UNITE as a camper or Team Leader. Applicants must have a 2.75 (unweighted) GPA, and must submit a 500 word essay and two letters of recommendation (one from a school employee and one from a community member). Applications are available in the guidance office or at http://operationunite.org/youth-initiatives/scholarships/ . Deadline for submission is March 15, 2019.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation Scholarship: KFB will award 95 county and state scholarships to high school seniors for the current school year. Scholarships may be applied to tuition, housing, books, and other educational expenses. Payments will be made directly to the college or university. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA or a minimum 23 ACT score, and be the child of a Kentucky Farm Bureau member. Applications may be downloaded at https://www.kyfb.com/federation/scholarships/ or picked up in the guidance office. Deadline is February 28, 2019. **There will also be a local Farm Bureau Scholarship available; information will be coming soon.**

Rockcastle Community Scholarships: The community has several scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2000, which are available to RCHS seniors. Applicants must write a 300 word essay concerning education and career goals. The application is available in the guidance office; deadline for submission is April 30, 2019.

Berea College: If you are interested in attending Berea College, the deadline for applying is March 31st 2019, but it is best if you can get your application completed early in the school year. You must also have a counselor and a teacher complete a recommendation form and send it to the admissions office. DAR Scholarships: Several scholarships are offered through the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Some target students who are planning a career in history, nursing, occupational therapy, or physical therapy. Others target students who are of Native American descent (must have Tribal Council verification). These scholarship applications have varying academic requirements; they are due by February 15, 2019. Applications and more information are available in the guidance office.

Eastern Kentucky University Merit Scholarships: EKU awards scholarship automatically to students who qualify, and the amount varies according to GPA and ACT score. To learn more and to see at what level you qualify, check out the Scholarship Estimator at https://scholarships.eku.edu/state-freshmen. Priority deadline is February 1, 2019.

Kentucky Federation of Republican Women Scholarship: The Kentucky Federation of Republican women grants a $1,500 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior girl who has been politically active within the Republican Party. Applicants must also be a registered Republican and plan to enroll at an accredited Kentucky college or university. The completed application will include the application form, a one page typed essay, transcript, and two letters of recommendation. Pick up applications in the guidance office; deadline for submission is April 1, 2019.

Morehead State University Scholarships: There are many scholarships that MSU offers which vary in award depending upon your GPA and ACT score. You can access information about these scholarships at https://www.moreheadstate.edu/Affording-College/Scholarships/In-State-Scholarships. The deadline for most of these scholarships is March 15, 2019.

Northern Kentucky University: Students who achieve a 2.5 weighted GPA and a 21 ACT or 1060 SAT or greater are considered for academic scholarships.  The university offers numerous scholarship levels from $500 to full tuition/housing. Somerset Community College Scholarships: SCC has a wide variety of scholarships, and the scholarship office strives to match students with appropriate funding sources. After applying to SCC, you can go to https://somerset.kctcs.edu/affording-college/paying-for-college/scholarship-application.aspx and fill out the online application for all scholarships. Deadline for submission is March 1, 2019.
