RCHS “Springs Into Reading!”

On Friday, April 26th, Ms. Joanie Alexander and RCHS hosted their annual Spring Into Reading Event.  Spring Into Reading began in 2012, by then librarian, Mrs. Janet Wells.  It has run consecutively every year since.  Prior to the reading event, students sign up for books and discussion groups one month in advance and are surprised on the day of by a guest book discussion leader.  Guest leaders are community leaders, current and retired teachers/staff in our school and district authors, and DAR members.  This year’s guest speaker was 2016 RCHS graduate and author, Logan Taylor who self- published his book Welcome to the Race in June of last year. Logan shared about his book, experience as a writer, and the steps he took to become a published author.   This year, there were 17 books discussed (with 17 leaders) and 68 student participants.  Various genres were read/discussed including Teen Fiction, Sci-Fi, Romance, Adventure, Horror, and Historical Fiction. Titles included “All the Bright Places” (Jennifer Niven), “The Book Thief” (Markus Zusak), “Hit Count” (Chris Lynch), and  “The Lucky One” (Nicholas Sparks).  Students and guests were served refreshments and had a wonderful time interacting and discussing the books they had read.  We can’t wait until next year!
