During the week of July 1-5, the Rockcastle FFA Chapter attended the Kentucky Leadership Training Center (LTC) located in Hardinsburg Ky. There was a total of 14 members present (Destiny Adams, Ashley Brenda, Kaylan Bullock, Riley Childress, Kyle Coffey, Jacob Lopez, Journey McGuire, Holly Miller, Camden Mink, Andrew Phillips, Erica Pigg, Emily Reynolds, Savanna Sweet, and Natalie Tolle), as well as our two advisors, Mrs. Mary Adams and Mr. Lewis Mink. The chapter was joined at camp by 21 other FFA Chapters from around the state of Kentucky. Our days were spent preparing for our upcoming officer positions, as well as exercises to ensure our Rockcastle Chapter continues our team growth. We had classes on special interests, officer positions, athletics, as well as a lot of extracurricular activities. Officers spent time on the low ropes course completing obstacles that challenged them to work as a team. By learning to communicate and depend on each other through this course, we have learned that being there for each other in our chapter is a key component for a successful officer team this year.
Several of our members had individual success during the week. Holly Miller ran for Camp Council, with Savanna Sweet serving as the Camp Council Delegate. Kaylan Bullock and Kyle Coffey were on the week’s winning Athletic Group. Jacob Lopez was selected as an All-Star in basketball. Journey McGuire competed in the Talent Contest and placed second. Destiny Adams competed in the week’s Quiz Contest and placed first. She advances to the State Quiz Contest that will be held during the Kentucky State Fair. Riley Childress competed in the week’s Tractor Driving Contest and placed first. He will travel back to Hardinsburg on July 19 to compete in the State Tractor Driving Contest.
Overall, camp was a great experience and provided us with many skills to be successful in not only team work with the FFA but in life as well. The Rockcastle FFA Chapter is now ready to tackle the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.
