Minds in the Middle Newsletter

Thanks to all of the RCMS students who participated in Team Abby Day last Wednesday.  Students wore purple and held a hat day to show support for Abby Langford in her battle with cancer.  We also thank Abby for coming to visit us on that day.  $350 was raised by our students and staff.

The Shoebox in Mt. Vernon has offered to help the 8th graders with their fundraising efforts.  Make a $5 donation to toward the 8th grade trip and receive a card for a free pair of shoes with the purchase of a pair of equal or greater value.  See an 8th grader to make a donation.  Thank you to the Neeley family for helping us out!  The KONA Ice trucks will be here on February 18th.  All proceeds benefit the 8th grade trip.

Congratulations to the Academic Team for their performance at Saturday’s regional tournament. The team placed second overall out of a total of twenty-four teams. Ninety of our 8th graders have been randomly selected to participate in the NAEP assessment in February.  Students who were selected should have brought home a letter about it last week.  That assessment will take place on February 24th.

Remember that we now have drug testing kits free to all parents.  The test is a saliva test and is very easy to give.  This is a great resources for parents who have suspicions that their child may be using drugs.  The kits are sponsored by Unite and can be picked up in our Youth Services Center.

8th graders who are interested in the Rogers Explorers program must have those applications in by February 15th.  The Rogers Explorers program is a three day summer program at a Kentucky college where students use creative thinking, teamwork and leadership skills.
