This week is Random Acts of Kindness week. Our Builders Club is heading up the “Wall of Kindness” and are looking for students who are doing kind acts throughout the school day. Those students’ names will appear on the wall for showing that they care about others.
We are still taking yearbook orders and will be for a while. However, if you want to have your name on the front cover of your yearbook, you must order one by February 26th. The cost for a personalized yearbook is $40.00.
It is spelling bee time again at RCMS and the teams are currently in the process of narrowing the field to one winner per team. Congratulations to the four class spelling bee winners on the Voyagers team: Delani Reynolds, Jason Puckett, Jacob Collinsworth and Seth Lykins. Those four students then competed for the title of Team Spelling Bee winner with Seth Lykins coming out on top. Seth will now represent the Voyagers in the school spelling bee. Chandler Cole, Emma Smith, Blaine Rumsey and Gracelynn Owens were spelling bee winners in Mrs. Wolfe’s language arts classes. Those four competed to be the Adventurers Team Spelling Bee Winner with Gracelynn Owens coming out on top. Congratulations to all of them! The six team winners will compete on Thursday.
Remember to make a $5 donation to toward the 8th grade trip and receive a card for a free pair of shoes with the purchase of a pair of equal or greater value at The Shoebox in Mt. Vernon. See an 8th grader to make a donation.
The KONA Ice trucks will be here on Wednesday, February 18th. All proceeds benefit the 8th grade trip.
ESS will resume this Thursday, February 12th and will be held each Thursday thereafter. Students who need some extra help with their assignments can stay after school until 4:45. The grading period will end on February 20th, so take advantage of this time to improve your academics. Transportation is provided. Art Club is available during this time as well.
Ninety of our 8th graders have been randomly selected to participate in the NAEP assessment in February. That assessment will take place on February 24th.
Remember that we now have drug testing kits free to all parents. The test is a saliva test and is very easy to give. This is a great resources for parents who have suspicions that their child may be using drugs. The kits are sponsored by Unite and can be picked up in our Youth Services Center.
8th graders who are interested in the Rogers Explorers program must have those applications in by this Sunday, February 15th. The Rogers Explorers program is a three day summer program at a Kentucky college where students use creative thinking, teamwork and leadership skills. See Mrs. Cromer if you have questions or need help with the application process.
A new Box Tops race began last week and will continue through February 25th. The team who collects the most box tops in this 3-week race will win a pizza party.
Congratulations to Mr. Mattingly’s 7th grade Shooting Stars on winning the attendance race last week. Mr. McGuire’s Shooting Stars and Mr. Gabbard’s 6th grade Enterprisers tied for second.
