The RCMS Academic Team competed in the Governor’s Cup Regional Tournament this past weekend and finished second in Quick Recall and second overall. The team placed first in Science, Social Studies, and Composition. The team will be moving on to the State Finals in March. The following students placed in individual written assessment: In Language Arts, Ashley Brenda and Bailey Cromer tied for fifth place. In Composition, Bailey Cromer placed third and Elizabeth Mikeworth placed first. In Science, Joseph Pickle placed fourth and Elizabeth Mikeworth placed first with the third-highest score in the state and in Social Studies, Corey Coleman placed fourth and Joseph Pickle placed first with sixth-highest score in the state.
The archery team competed in London on Saturday. TJ Ramsey continued to lead the way coming in 7th out of 132 middle school boys at the tournament. TJ scored 274 and hit the bullseye 14 times. 8th grader Trace Boone had his best performance ever shooting a 254. The leading female shooter for RCMS was Paige Cash with 251 followed by Allison McCoy’s 245 and Emily Maupin’s 244. Alyssa Martin and Deajeon Dean both shot 243 and achieved their personal best scores on Saturday. Rounding out the top twelve to contribute to the team’s total score were Liz Renner, Cayla Marcum, Emily Sturgill, Ethan Cromer, and Jaden Cameron.
The RCMS girls’ team placed 3rd at Mason County on Saturday with a great team performance and many individuals setting new all-time personal bests. Emma Watson led RCMS in scoring with 30.5 points. She won the 400-meter dash, long jump, and placed 2nd in the 55. Bethany Martin, Jenna Loudermilk, and Abby Burdette all had great sprint performances. Natalie Tolle scored in shot put with a 4th place finish. Allie Martin led the varsity team to a 2nd place finish, scoring 30.5 points. She won the 400, long jump, and placed 2nd in the 55. Reina Lykins placed 5th in the 55 hurdles and 6th in long jump. Jailey Martin placed 4th in triple jump and 6th in high jump. Allie, Reina, and Emma also ran on the winning 4×400 relay team. Lexi Dotson ran at the Vanderbilt University High School Indoor Invitational on Saturday and ran the 3rd fastest time in the U.S. for a 6th grader in the girls’ middle school mile.
Congratulations to the 8th grade boys basketball team on reaching the Final Four of the 8th Grade State Basketball Tournament this weekend at the KBA in Lexington. The tournament consisted of 86 teams from all across the state. Great run by the Rockets!!!
Volleyball tryouts will be held Monday, February 12th. 7th and 8th grade will be from 3:30-5:30. 6th grade from 6-8. You must have a current sports physical in order to tryout.
You will have one more day to bring in your Box Tops. The winning team will receive an extra incentive. Don’t forget your Box Tops tomorrow and help your team win.
