Rockcastle County, KY — Exciting news for Rockcastle County Schools! The Food Service Department has been awarded the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) grant for the 2024-2025 school year, totaling $100,800. This significant grant will benefit all three of the county's elementary schools: Brodhead Elementary School, Roundstone Elementary School, and Mount Vernon Elementary School.
The FFVP grant aims to provide fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack alternatives for students, encouraging healthier eating habits and expanding their exposure to various fruits and vegetables. Alongside offering these nutritious snacks, the grant mandates the incorporation of nutrition education in all classes from Pre-K to 5th grade.
To support this initiative, comprehensive handouts, information sheets, and engaging activities will be provided to teachers. These resources are designed to seamlessly integrate into daily lessons, fostering meaningful discussions about nutrition and healthy eating habits between teachers and students.
The Rockcastle County Schools community is thrilled about the positive impact this program will have on the health and well-being of its students.
