Mount Vernon Elementary proudly announces that fifth-grader Josie Cruz, from Mrs. Bobbie Mason's homeroom, has won the countywide essay contest organized by the local Daughters of the Revolution chapter. Josie’s 600-word essay, “Enjoying a New Kind of Tea Party,” was selected as the top entry among numerous submissions for its thoughtful analysis, historical accuracy, and compelling use of evidence. The essay challenged students to imagine participating in the revolutionary tea parties of the 1770s, such as the Edenton Tea Party or Wilmington Tea Party, and discuss the motivations and outcomes of these bold acts of protest. Josie’s writing demonstrated a deep understanding of the topic, showcasing her hard work and dedication.

To honor this achievement, Josie was presented with a certificate and award by Sharon Lovell, representing the local Daughters of the Revolution chapter, and Dr. Carrie Ballinger, Superintendent of Rockcastle County Schools. The Mount Vernon Elementary community is thrilled to celebrate this well-deserved recognition, which reflects Josie’s academic excellence and passion for learning. Her success is an inspiration to her peers and a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering critical thinking and creativity in young learners. Congratulations to Josie on this outstanding accomplishment!
