Rockcastle County GATE 5th-grade students spent two days at JM Feltner 4H Campground for Environmental Camp!! They were immersed in nature, learning about Kentucky Mammals, dissecting owl pellets, harnessing their creativity while creating leaf print bags, and building community with their peers.
Thursday night, we ventured into the woods for a magical experience where our goal was to call in an owl! As the sun set and the forest quieted, we gathered to learn about these fascinating nocturnal birds. Using recorded calls and a little patience, we called out to the local owls... and they answered!
From nature hikes to identifying Kentucky Native trees, these students showed leadership, curiosity, and a true commitment to protecting our environment.
A huge shoutout to RCHS GearUp Seniors for serving as Student Leaders during Environmental Camp! We appreciate your dedication to making this trip memorable!! 🚀
