Students across Rockcastle County Schools are learning how to set purposeful goals, stay focused through challenges, and make thoughtful decisions that align with their values. By envisioning their future, our Rockets are becoming resilient learners, critical thinkers, innovative leaders, and responsible citizens — all charting their own course toward success! 🚀

Several student organizations — HOSA, SkillsUSA, FBLA, and the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy — have teamed up to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive to help support families in our local community.
The first period with the most donations will win a Chick-fil-A breakfast!

Last week, RCHS Honors Club members spent time with CAP Preschool students, lending a hand and sharing smiles as part of their community service. From reading stories to creating art and learning through play, our high school students showed what leadership and kindness look like in action.

Portrait of a Rocket in Action:
On Friday, October 24, over 30 members of the RCHS FFA completed a community service project at Rockcastle Health & Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead. Along with advisor Matt Whitaker, these students spread mulch and worked to beautify the landscaping for visitors and residents.
During this community project, members showed Innovative Leadership, Responsible Citizenship, and Active Collaboration--all traits that work to build a Portrait of a Rocket.

This afternoon, students in the RCHS JAG ( Jobs for America's Graduates) program took part in the RCHS JAG Career Association Initiation & Installation Ceremony.
Speakers included principal Brandy Smith and instructor Brent Lovell.
The ceremony serves to formally welcome new members into the program.
Thank you to our JAG program and Mr. Lovell. These students volunteer within our community and demonstrate what it means to be a Responsible Citizen, one of the six characteristics in our Portrait of a Rocket.

If your child has a change in after school pickup or bus transportation, please try to notify the school by 2:00. This will allow us to notify your child during class change, and help us reduce the number of class interruptions during 7th period.

Club Spotlight!
The D&D and Magic: The Gathering Clubs, sponsored by Mr. Kevin Lewis and Mr. Sam Smith, are two of our most active clubs, frequently meeting after school and engaging in activities between club meetings.
On the first club day in October, the clubs welcomed Mr. Brian Sizemore and Mr. Dillan Lee from Turnbuckle World, a new business in Mt. Vernon. Turnbuckle World will be having club shirts made for both clubs, and they will also be donating gaming items throughout the year to the clubs.
Yesterday, D&D held their first after school meeting of the year, and several students were able to attend.

Students in Mr. Cliff Mullins's Culinary 2 class planned, prepared and served a delicious lunch for visitors from Knox Central High School and RCHS staff.
The menu consisted of caesar salad with fresh croutons, homemade gnocchi with sautéed peppers, and sausages made from freshly ground pork, topped with a creamy tomato sauce. For dessert, guests were served individually baked apple crisp with house-made vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce.
Great job, students! We were so impressed by both the food and your professional demeanor!
This event is just one example of the vibrant learning experiences that make Mr. Mullins's growing culinary program a source of pride in our community.

* We will not have Success Lab this week because of the football game being on Thursday night.
* Registration for the ACT and SAT exams in December is now open. The ACT deadline is November 7; the SAT deadline is November 24. See Ms. Susan in Room 030 with questions or for help registering. Remember, some waivers are available.
*There will be no tennis practice on Thursday due to the weather.
Also today, students from Mrs. Tara Brown's SED 104 class are observing classes at MVES. Shown below are some of the students on a previous visit.
