Last week, RCHS Honors Club members spent time with CAP Preschool students, lending a hand and sharing smiles as part of their community service. From reading stories to creating art and learning through play, our high school students showed what leadership and kindness look like in action.

We’re so proud of their dedication to service and their positive impact on our youngest learners!

Portrait of a Rocket in Action:
On Friday, October 24, over 30 members of the RCHS FFA completed a community service project at Rockcastle Health & Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead. Along with advisor Matt Whitaker, these students spread mulch and worked to beautify the landscaping for visitors and residents.
During this community project, members showed Innovative Leadership, Responsible Citizenship, and Active Collaboration--all traits that work to build a Portrait of a Rocket.

If your child has a change in after school pickup or bus transportation, please try to notify the school by 2:00. This will allow us to notify your child during class change, and help us reduce the number of class interruptions during 7th period.
Thank you!

Club Spotlight!
The D&D and Magic: The Gathering Clubs, sponsored by Mr. Kevin Lewis and Mr. Sam Smith, are two of our most active clubs, frequently meeting after school and engaging in activities between club meetings.
On the first club day in October, the clubs welcomed Mr. Brian Sizemore and Mr. Dillan Lee from Turnbuckle World, a new business in Mt. Vernon. Turnbuckle World will be having club shirts made for both clubs, and they will also be donating gaming items throughout the year to the clubs.
Yesterday, D&D held their first after school meeting of the year, and several students were able to attend.

Students in Mr. Cliff Mullins's Culinary 2 class planned, prepared and served a delicious lunch for visitors from Knox Central High School and RCHS staff. The menu consisted of caesar salad with fresh croutons, homemade gnocchi with sautéed peppers, and sausages made from freshly ground pork, topped with a creamy tomato sauce. For dessert, guests were served individually baked apple crisp with house-made vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce. Great job, students! We were so impressed by both the food and your professional demeanor! This event is just one example of the vibrant learning experiences that make Mr. Mullins's growing culinary program a source of pride in our community. #RocketLearnerstoRocketLeaders

Rocket Habit of the Month: Habit 1 – Be Proactive! 🚀
Leadership begins long before the classroom — it starts at home. Families can help children take responsibility and make thoughtful choices by using the “Pause, Think, Choose” method. Encourage your child to stop, reflect, and make the best choice for any situation. Together, we’re building strong proactive habits that last a lifetime!

ROCK Your RED

Congratulations to the seventy-five RCHS students who collectively earned $7500 in student incentives for their qualifying scores on the AP Precalculus, AP Seminar, and AP English Literature exams in May! These incentives were possible due to individual teacher partnerships with AdvanceKentucky.
Today, we recognized our current RCHS students and presented each student their check during homeroom.
Thank you to Mrs. Stephanie Carter from AdvanceKentucky for coming today, and thank you to Mrs. Brandy Smith, Mr. JD Bussell, and Dr. Carrie Ballinger for supporting our students and our AP Program today and every day.

AdvanceKentucky supports teaching and learning in Advanced Placement® math, science, computer science, English, and Capstone courses to allow students to earn college credit while still in high school and develop the skills they need to be successful after high school. We are ever thankful for their support!

A group of high school students stand in front of a blue background holding a large cardboard check.

Today is October 20, and we have several activities and events--

  1. Fashion Club is hosting a winter coat/hat/glove drive. Please donate gently used or new coats, hats, and gloves. They can be taken to Mrs. Nottingham's room in the English hallway.

  2. SMILE Club members may bring packages of individually wrapped gummies through this Friday, October 24, to donate to DCBS for Trick or Treat!

  3. Other club activities/announcements: Crochet Club members need to pick up their stickers from Mrs. B. If you have not done so by Wednesday, you may forfeit your spot in the club. Also, D&D members need to sign up for their campaign on the Google Classroom page.

  4. Academic Team practice for today is cancelled.

  5. Success Lab continues this Thursday until 4:45. This is the time for students to stay after school for missed exams, extra support, and even just a quiet, uninterrupted place to complete assignments with one-on-one support available. Transportation is provided.

Make it a great day, Rockets!
